Wu Li is one of the most famous guzheng virtuoso in China, and a double gold-prize winner of the domestic and international guzheng competitions. Meanwhile she is a member of the guzheng committee of the Chinese Musician Association and a Master of guzheng. Now she is a head of plucking instruments division of the folk music department of Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou. Wu Li graduated from Central Conservatory of Music, tutored by Professor Li Meng, At the same time, she studied Guqin under Professor Li Xiang Ting. In 2000, she got the first place in the Millennium International Guzheng Competition held in Taiwan, praised highly by the judges with the following comments: "has sincere sentiments and superior skills". In 2001, she took part in the Chinese Art Competition and got the gold prize of Young Professional Group of Guzheng. Besides, she was also the winner of the first Chinese National Funds. In order to commend her outstanding work, the Central Conservatory of Music granted her the highest specialty award --- Fu Cheng Xian Commemorative Prize.
As an active guzheng virtuoso, Wu Li has organized and joined in many concerts. For example, in 2002, she held a Wu Li Guzheng Recital in Beijing and created the following skills --- "plucking and pressing with one hand", "scraping with the left hand", which made a sensation in the Folk Music circles. Since 2002, as a deputy of Chinese guzheng virtuosos, she was invited to take part in the Special Performance of Chinese Young Guzheng Virtuosos held by International Guzheng Seminar every time. In 2003, she held a recital in Italy and became the first Chinese guzheng performer to hold the Guzheng & Guqin Recital in Italy. In October 2005, she held a innovative guzheng recital "Butterfly & Blue --- Guzheng & Electronic Music" which gained the nationwide known recognition, and became the first guzheng virtuoso who held this kind of concert in China, meanwhile she also created a superior skills "Plucking & pressing with overtone" and gained great admiration. In addition, Wu Li has plenty of Chinese Folk Music Concerts in Southeast Asia, Korea, France, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and Has been invited by such as China National Television (CCTV) many times to videotape guzheng programs.
Wu Li is not only an outstanding virtuoso, but also an activist of developing the art of guzheng. She has debuted a number of excellent modern guzheng works at both home and abroad, among of which, Ripples by Ripples and Hunt in Wind became a smash once played, both of which were collected in the "Classic of Chinese Guzheng Works". The performance of "Ripples by Ripples" and Concerto "Experience" was commented as "the most touching performance", while "Hunt in Wind" was said to be "a milestone of modern guzheng music". When some of the works were first played in Europe, they got the praises of "her hands just like the wings of butterfly, dancing with the strings, the wonderful skills performing the enthusiastic Chinese music". In addition, the VCD series of Classics of Chinese Guzheng works designated her as the guzheng performer. Up to now Chinese Music weekly, China Pictorial, China Times, Italian Seven-day Paper, Malaysia Star, China Central Television, France National Television, Hong Kong Ming paper, etc., have covered Wu Li and her concerts. She¡¯s solo CD " Hunt in wind" was recommended the preferred guzheng CD by "Hong Kong CD/DVD Bible". Wu Li also developed on a broader basis. She was invited to compile the books of "Pop Classics Created by Professionals and Expertise", and published many guzheng music books. Besides, she establish her guzheng-theme individual website "Wu Li Guzheng Palace: www.wulimusic.com", so as to expand the platform for Chinese guzheng art.
